Healthy Roof Checklist!

Broken Ridge Tiles

Broken ridge tiles Island Imperial Roofing

The Ridge Tiles sit at the very top of your Roof. They are at the most vulnerable point of every Roof, as they are most exposed and therefore, the most weather beaten.

If you have a broken or slipped Ridge Tile, because they are at the pinnacle of your Roof, it has the potential to do the most damage, when it rains.

ONE Broken or Slipped Roof Tile can cause Havoc!

Again, similar to the Ridge Tiles, the higher on the Roof the break is, the higher the potential is to cause damage to your property.

Please DO NOT ignore a Broken or Slipped Tile, it is Not cost effective!

Moss on Roof

Moss might look harmless, but it can cause moisture damage to the roof tiles and wood underneath

During summer it can spread fast, so it’s best to catch it before it gets out of control. The easiest way to remove moss is after a dry spell.  If your roof is covered in moss, it might have caused further damage, so it could be worth speaking to a roofing expert for advice.

Broken Guttering System

Broken leaking guttering Island Imperial Roofing

The Guttering System is successfully designed to take ALL the Rain-Water away from your Roof, therefore  protecting your property from the elements.

Like ALL systems, if one part is broken, the whole system fails.

Blocked Guttering System

This is one of the simplest Roof Maintenance jobs of them all, but also the one people leave the longest.

If left for long enough, the water can spill over, rot the Fascia or Soffit and even enter the wall cavity.

Please DO NOT ignore, it is Not cost effective!

Chimney flashing's & Roof Vents

Island Imperial Chimney Flashing

Chimneys are a common source of leaks. It’s important to check the flashing and make sure that it isn’t peeled away, dislodged or otherwise damaged. Vents should be investigated to make sure that the sealant isn’t cracking or peeling away. Any structure that penetrates through the roof and requires sealing to ensure that your roof doesn’t leak should be looked at it. These are the natural weak points when it comes to your roof and water coming through into your home.

Damp in loft Island Imperial Roofing

A Damp Smell in your Loft

A damp smell in your Loft is a sure way to detect that your Roof, is or has had a leak. Monitoring your roof from the indoors is just as important, so make sure you regularly check your attic or roof space for areas that are sagging while keeping an eye out for water damage and leaks. Dark spots and drips are usually major indicators that you have a roof leak. Furthermore, check whether there is any light entering the room from outside and check your joists for woodworm, dampness, fungus and rot.

As with everything we have said, please DO NOT IGNORE these signs.

Damp on Walls or Ceilings
